relating to comparative national policy in Western and Eastern Europe.
Joint author of Study for the European Commission on the scope and
role of DGXIII before establishment. Major papers on policy research.
Initiated
and developed over 30 years at Durham programmes focused upon local
and regional SME and enterprise development.. Numerous programmes
for staff development of public, NGO and private local agencies
in the UK and internationally including Canada, Malaysia, India,
Philippines, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Latin America, West Indies,
Russia, Central and Eastern Europe.

a University Centre for specialisation in SME development which
has an international reputation. This covers the full spectrum of
development from culture and education in schools through to undergraduate
programmes, graduate entrepreneurship, business start-up and survival,
growth and internationalisation.Stakeholder development research
and development programmes cover counsellors/consultants, teacher/trainers,
NGO directors and staff, local authorities, rural development agencies
and banker development. Key role in the establishment of North East
Universities Technology Transfer and Entreprepreneurship development
systems. Has developed and directed many programmes internationally
for directors and deans of universities on this theme.

pioneered numerous programmes for management development of SMEs
covering business start-up, survival and growth. Has also developed
programmes focused upon intra-corporate venturing and large company
restructuring into small. Author of several manuals focused upon
SME management development. Has pioneered work in relationship management

all continents. Experience ranges from broad areas of policy studies,
development and evaluation to detailed management work with agencies

developed national programmes for the training of UK Small Business
Counsellors and advisors under government and other programmes.
Has developed an extensive manual for the European Commission (Cedefop)
on the competencies required of trainers for SME management development
and has converted this into international programmes. Has developed
and run programmes for all Local Enterprise Agencies in the UK and
worked extensively with public, private and NGO Organisations on
their development throughout the world. Worked closely with Business
in the Community in the UK on programmes of Corporate Social Responsibility
related to Restructuring.
Enterprise
Culture and Education in Schools and Colleges and Higher Education
Highlights and Publications
Has
developed, with a team of professional teachers, major initiatives
in the field of Enterprise education at all levels in the educational
curriculum from primary through to graduate. These programmes have
been extensively delivered in the UK and in many countries throughout
the world including Finland, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary,
Slovenia, Malaysia and Bangladesh. Has undertaken major evaluation
and development studies in this area. Has developed, for over thirty
years, programmes on MBA and undergraduate courses relating to SME
development. Under the Chair at Durham has been developed an innovative
Masters in Entrepreneurship and many innovative undergraduate and
graduate diploma and non-certificated programmes to link Graduates
with SME development.

Has
undertaken many national policy studies and several major comparative
research studies. Has written extensively on the role of research
in policy making. Has developed and managed European Doctoral programmes
in the SME field. Has delivered numerous keynote speeches at international
research conferences around the world. Serves on the Board of many
